To anyone who’s thinking they might write some day, my advice would be
DO IT
NOW. I was forty-five when I finally got round to it. Oh, I used to
think about writing all the time. Characters, plots, titles, award
ceremonies…… It took me an embarrassingly long time to realise that in
order to be a writer, you have to write.
Buy a copy of The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron and get on with it.
These pages give some information about what I’ve been up to since I stopped thinking and started writing.
And to thank the people who’ve helped and encouraged me so much. Thank you, Sue Wilson,
Chris Emmett and Jenny Lee. I can’t believe my fantastic luck in having
such wonderful mentors. Thanks, Nick, for the dinners and the plots. And
thank you, Sue Lake. You got me started; it wouldn’t have happened without
you. I miss you.
